Sturgis, Meeting friends and the sights.

Saturday morning we're up but not too early but early enough to catch he continental breakfast.
It's great not having to run out and spend extra money for breakfast.
Cereal, eggs, juice, waffles and fruit are usually available at most of the motels we've stayed at.

Today we're going up to Sturgis to check out the pre-rally activities. The official rally start is Monday but pre-rally setup began last week for most people with vendors coming in from all over the country.

It's about 75 miles north of Custer so it will be a nice ride through the Black Hills on highway 385.

Along the way we can see the Crazy Horse Memorial through the trees. Della and I have been there before so it's not on our to do list but if you are in the area be sure to go see it.

Everywhere you go now you see hundreds of motorcyclists of every age and gender on every type of motorcycle you've ever seen and some you never will again.

Pretty soon your coming into Sturgis and it looks like this.........

Thousands of bikes as far as you can see.
This is looking west on Main Street in the Old Town part of Sturgis.
Lazelle Street is two blocks over and most of the big name vendors are located along it.
Most of these store fronts are empty except in August when it's rally time.

Then of course there are the people.......the strange....

And the distracting........

And the celebrities.......

This is Mike Wolfe from the TV show American Pickers.

He's also the spokesperson for Indian Motorcycles now and was signing autographs.

So after a long day we headed back to Custer for some pie and ice cream at the Purple Pie Place.

Fresh home made pies and Blue Bunny Ice Cream.

Excellent finish to a long day.

Sunday morning dawns and I'm heading out to breakfast and to meet some fellows I know from the Star Stratoliner & Roadliner Forum on Delphi.
We all ride the Roadliner or Stratoliner models made by Star Motorcycles.
This will be a first time meeting for most of us and should be fun.

We're meeting in Keystone, SD which is about 20 miles from where I'm staying.

And here we are closeup after breakfast.....

From left to right: Johnny aka Caper (CaperJohnny), Alan aka bkrdad1, Gene aka Mid-Wester (MidWestStar), Murph aka TeeEffEssand, and his buddy Evil John, Rich aka  RW (VTwinNut).

It was great to meet these fellows after chatting and sharing information about our bikes with them for a couple years online.
There is talk of getting together next year somewhere, if it happens some of us may need passports as a couple of these fellows are from Canada.
After breakfast a couple of the fellows followed me back towards Custer so they could see the Crazy Horse memorial.

Spent the rest of the day just riding around the area.

One more day and then homeward bound.......
