Mt. Rushmore, Needles Highway, Custer Park

Sometimes I feel like all I do is eat on vacations and Monday starts out the same with breakfast......

OK so you have to eat and I'm a breakfast person....got to have it or my day isn't going to run right.

Then it's off to see some sites starting with Mt. Rushmore.

This is definitely one of those places everyone should visit at least once.

They have a huge multilevel parking structure that gets pretty full and during rally they have designated levels for bikes only so they don't have to deal with the cars.

When you get to the top of the parking your at the entrance and it's quite the view.

As you move into the inner court you get this view.

Photo op time:

Walking up the promenade this time we saw this gal.

This Big Horn Sheep was strolling just a few feet off the walkway followed by her baby.

Pay no attention to us we're just passing through.

And then it all comes into view!

Walking around they have a restaurant, gift shop and an ice cream shop.
There are plenty of hands on exhibits and short movies of the construction.

At night they have a show with a lighting of the monument.....we'll have to take that in on another trip.

A little humor I found while walking around looking for the rest rooms......

Automatic door for disabled.

The doors are supposed to open with a very light pull or push but they were not functioning when I pulled or pushed on them.

Leaving Rushmore we head for Needles Highway aptly named for the rock formations.
